March Updates From the AHS Counseling Office
Four days late, but still good info... thank you for your patience as we have had a really (really!) busy week back from break. As always, we hope this information is helpful...
🙋 This week the school counselors have been visiting sophomore Wellness classrooms to implement our Signs of Suicide program. The SOS program is vital to making sure our students understand the potential warning signs of depression and know what to do to properly A.C.T. (Acknowledge, Care, Tell).
🙋 If you are a junior intending on taking either the SAT or the ACT, now is the time to register! Don't delay as test sites do get filled!
SAT: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/registration
ACT: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html
🙋 We are in the midst of course selection. Students, make sure you are logging into iPass to review your courses. Once the student portal is closed, the parent portal will be open for parents to review and approve choices. Students, if you missed the chance to put in your elective choices when the student portal is open, just have your parents enter them when their portal opens! Once the parent portal is closed, counselors will be reviewing all course selections to make sure everything looks good towards graduation and student goals, and will check in with students individually if there are any issues.
🙋 For any sophomores or juniors planning on doing college tours over April break, you may want to start thinking about booking your tours now! At more popular colleges for families to visit the tour spots do have a tendency to fill up (for example, UMass-Amherst will almost definitely fill up).
🙋 Seniors, when you have received official decisions from colleges (accepted, rejected, waitlisted, deferred, etc.) please make sure to go into Naviance and update the status. This is data we collect to see how our students are faring with different schools' admissions departments, and helps our underclassmen develop a targeted list of colleges to apply to.
