HAPPY NEW YEAR! January Updates From the AHS Counseling Department!

Happy New Year everyone!  We hope everyone is rested, relaxed, and ready to come back to school.  It can be tough to come back to school work after a vacation, but we have to remember that getting an education and developing into an intelligent, well-rounded citizen is important (but definitely especially difficult to remember at six in the morning :)

Here are some updates for January from the counseling department!

👉 Mid-year exam week is the last week of January, 24th-27th.  The schedule will be released soon, make sure you know when your exams are!  And relax... if you have been diligent about paying attention in class, asking questions, participating, doing your homework, and being a hard-working student you are in great shape for your exam.  Reviewing and studying for your exam is always recommended, but make sure you aren't doing so much that you are stressing yourself out!  There is a difference between being prepared and confident, and overwhelmed and anxious.

👉 JUNIORS and parents of juniors mark your calendars!  The Counseling Department is hosting COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE NIGHT FOR JUNIORS AND PARENTS on Thursday, February 9th at 7:00pm-8:00pm over Zoom.  It is a complete overview of the college research and application process.  The students are about halfway through their seminars with their counselors, and this is an opportunity for parents to get information that the students are getting!

👉 Interested in getting free money for college?  You need SCHOLARSHIPS!  Here is a quick video I made on how to find scholarships.  It's only five minutes long - very quick and easy!  Geared for seniors, but underclassmen may find it helpful...

👉 Need some extra help for that really difficult class?  Besides meeting with the teacher after school or during X-block, you can request a peer tutor from the students in the National Honor Society!  They have hung posters around the school with a QR code that you can scan with your phone and then sign up for a tutor.  Get the help you need to be successful!

👉 The Vendetti Wellness Group in Hopkinton is hosting a therapeutic Art Studio Group for kids on Saturday mornings 10:30am-12:30pm from February 25th to April 1st.  Run by a licensed mental health clinician, this program is ideal for students who need extra support but also find engaging in art to be helpful in their mindfulness!  For more information or to sign up, visit www.ventettiwellnessgroup.com.

👉  JUNIORS if you are planning on applying to four-year colleges, now is the time to register for the SAT's or ACT's.  Links:
