May Updates From the AHS Counseling Department

  April showers bring... May flowers! We are so excited to have gotten to May, and realize we are a short way away from the end of the school year.  This is especially true for seniors.  Seniors, work hard until the end, but then start celebrating your accomplishments!  It has been an extraordinary thirteen years, counting Kindergarten.  We are so proud of you, your hard work, your perseverance, and your  accomplishments .   Here are some updates from the AHS Counseling Department.  As always, we hope this is helpful! 🎕 Seniors, local scholarship folks are reporting that they haven't gotten many scholarship applicants.  What are you waiting for?  The money is out there!  You can find all local scholarship applications on your Naviance account (Colleges - Scholarships and Money - Scholarship Search).  If you have any difficulty finding them, see your counselor or Mr. McGann.  We're happy to help! 🎕 Sophomores and jun...

April showers bring May flowers... and sometimes rainbows too!  Springtime is here and it is a wonderful time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.  Great for your mental as well as physical health.  We are in the home stretch of the school year, and April is a fairly short month: only 14 school days in the entire month of April.  Make sure you make them all count!  Here are some updates from the AHS Counseling Department.  We hope you find this information helpful! 🌈 Term three ends on Thursday, April 6th.  Be sure to complete any outstanding assignments and do what you can to raise your grade.  Also, be ready to get off to a good start for term four!  A great way to improve your grades are to sign up for your teachers' X-block offerings for extra help.  Pro tip: sign into iPass on Sunday night to review your current grades, then sign into Flextime and sign up to meet with whichever teacher is your lowest grade.  Do that every we...

Happy March!  I know it's not technically springtime (especially with the latest weather reports), but still now that we are in March I am saying it is officially springtime. Here is what is going on this month in the Counseling Office! 😋 This month we are having a special speaker program called "March Into Your Career."  We are having many speakers come in this month from a variety of careers.  Sign up for the X-blocks through FlexTime.  Make sure to get a spot because they will fill up!  Sign up for as many as you would like, especially if you aren't sure what career you would like to pursue. Happy February everyone... one last month of winter!  Bundle up, sip some hot chocolate, and look forward to springtime.  Here are some updates from the AHS Counseling office.  As always, we hope you find this helpful! ❆  Let's celebrate!  February 6th-10th is National School Counseling Week (#NSCW23). Counselors work tirelessly to help students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators in a variety of ways, and some of the best and most important work we do is confidential.  Make sure you take a moment to thank your favorite AHS counselor, send some positivity their way, and maybe give Huxley a few extra belly rubs when you see him in the cafeteria.  It's his special week too! ❆ Data has been released from the 2021 MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey and it is important for both students and parents to know the data to best support students! HAPPY NEW YEAR! January Updates From the AHS Counseling Department!

Happy New Year everyone!  We hope everyone is rested, relaxed, and ready to come back to school.  It can be tough to come back to school work after a vacation, but we have to remember that getting an education and developing into an intelligent, well-rounded citizen is important (but definitely especially difficult to remember at six in the morning :) Here are some updates for January from the counseling department! 👉 Mid-year exam week is the last week of January, 24th-27th.  The schedule will be released soon, make sure you know when your exams are!  And relax... if you have been diligent about paying attention in class, asking questions, participating, doing your homework, and being a hard-working student you are in great shape for your exam.  Reviewing and studying for your exam is always recommended, but make sure you aren't doing so much that you are stressing yourself out!  There is a difference between being prepared and confident, and overwhelmed ...

December Updates From the Counseling Office

Holiday time!  Colored lights, family celebrations, gift giving and receiving... and generally more eating.  All great stuff, but it can also be a challenging time for people too.  Make sure you are keeping an eye on your own mental health as well as checking in with friends, classmates, and family to make sure they are OK.  This is a great time of year to spread holiday cheer to those that need it the most!  Here are some updates from the AHS Counseling Department... the last ones for twenty-twenty twooooo... ⛄ Junior seminars are in full swing!  All members of the junior class are starting to meet in small groups with their counselor to start the process of researching their own personal plans for after they graduate from AHS.  Four-year college, two-year college, trade school, tech school, working, apprenticeship, gap year, serving our country in the military... we are good with any of these plans for yourself!  All we want you to do is be thou...

November Updates From the AHS Counseling Department

 Hello students and parents!  We have made it to November, which means gorgeous foliage, crisp mornings, Thanksgiving (including the tradition of the Thanksgiving football game), followed by Black Friday shopping deals.  This is the ideal time of the year to make sure you say thanks to those people in your life that help you, in big ways and small.  Here are some updates from the AHS counseling department! 🦃  Congrats to those seniors who successfully submitted applications to those colleges with November 1st Early Action or Early Decision deadlines!  Remember that many colleges offer "early" application windows that have upcoming deadlines, like 11/5 (UMass-Amherst), 11/15 (too many to mention), and even 12/1 (UConn).  For the materials that we submit (transcript, letters of recommendation, school profile) all you need to do is complete the Transcript Request Form and we'll take care of the rest.  Please be PATIENT!  We promise to make sure...
